Our hearts are with Venezuela

Our hearts are with VenezuelaAmateur Radio Society Bangladesh expresses deep grief for the victims of the devastating earthquakes of June 24–25, 2026.

Two powerful earthquakes — magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 — struck western Venezuela on June 24, 2026, killing at least 188 people, injuring over 1,500, and leaving thousands more trapped under rubble. The death toll is feared to rise significantly.

The Amateur Radio Society Bangladesh (ARSB) stands in solidarity with the people of Venezuela and with the global amateur radio community responding to this catastrophe. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives, and our prayers go to the injured and all those still awaiting rescue.

Amateur radio operators in Venezuela, operating under the Venezuelan Radio Club’s National Emergency Network, activated emergency HF communications immediately after the quakes struck — even as large parts of Caracas lost electricity and conventional communications failed. Their courage and dedication in the field reflects the very spirit of our shared calling as radio amateurs.

Emergency communications coordinators from across Latin America, as well as IARU Region 2, are on standby to provide any further assistance needed. The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) has issued a global frequency clearance request, and ARSB joins in urging all operators with HF capability to honour it.

Bangladesh knows the indispensable role amateur radio plays when disaster strikes — our own operators served as communication lifelines during the Feni floods. We stand with our Venezuelan counterparts today, in grief and in solidarity.
