Exciting Introduction to HAM Radio at BRAC University
ARSB and the BRAC University Robotics Club introduced more than 50 enthusiastic participants to amateur radio, emergency communication and global connectivity.
With the 2025 Amateur Radio Licence Examination announced by BTRC, interest in HAM radio is growing quickly across Bangladesh. To help curious minds take their first steps into amateur radio, the Amateur Radio Society of Bangladesh (ARSB) teamed up with the Robotics Club of BRAC University (ROBU) for an introductory session—and it was a great success.
The event welcomed more than 50 participants, most of them students eager to explore a new and exciting field. The session introduced what HAM radio is, how it works and why it remains important today—particularly for emergency communication and connecting people around the world.
Knowledge made accessible
Md. Ishraque Bin Shafique (S21BP) and Zubayer Al Billal Khan (S21BK) led the session with energy and enthusiasm. They translated complex topics into easy-to-understand ideas so that everyone—including participants without prior experience—could follow along and see a pathway towards becoming a licensed amateur radio operator.
HAM radio in action
A live radio demonstration by experienced operators Mufid Islam (S21IM), Nazrul Islam (S21NZ) and Tahsin Rahman Abir (S21IT) was one of the day’s major highlights. For many attendees, it was their first opportunity to experience real-time HAM radio communication, sparking excitement and thoughtful questions.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Principal Investigator of the ROBU Lab, encouraged students to explore practical, hands-on technologies. He highlighted the importance of communication skills and technical knowledge in robotics, disaster response and global networking.
The programme demonstrated how collaboration between ARSB and university clubs can create meaningful learning opportunities. With initiatives like this, the future of amateur radio in Bangladesh looks bright.
